Question 1

How much is the heat pump rebate in Ontario in 2026?

Accepted Answer

Up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump in a home heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood (1,250 dollars per ton), and up to $2,000 in a home heated by Enbridge natural gas (500 dollars per ton), through the Home Renovation Savings Program, as of October 2026. Geothermal systems qualify for up to $12,000.

Question 2

Is there a federal heat pump rebate in Canada right now?

Accepted Answer

Not open yet. The National Heat Pump Rebate, announced October 8, 2026, will pay $2,000 to eligible households and up to $10,000 to below-median-income households, and is expected to open in early 2027. Qualifying installations from November 1, 2026 fall within its retroactivity period, and no energy audit is required. The Canada Greener Homes Grant closed in 2024.

Question 3

Can I combine Ontario and federal rebates?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The federal government says the National Heat Pump Rebate can be combined with existing provincial programs, including Ontario's Home Renovation Savings. Each program's own caps and rules decide the final total, so the maximums can't simply be added together; we confirm what stacks, in writing, on your quote.

Question 4

Should I wait for the federal rebate before installing?

Accepted Answer

Usually not. Installs from November 1, 2026 fall within the National Heat Pump Rebate's retroactivity period, so you can install now, claim Ontario's rebate with pre-approval, and apply federally when the portal opens in early 2027. Keep your model numbers, invoices and receipts.

Question 5

Who qualifies for the $10,000 federal rebate?

Accepted Answer

Eligible low- to median-income households installing an eligible cold-climate air-source heat pump. The exact income thresholds haven't been published yet; other eligible households get $2,000.

Question 6

How much does a heat pump cost in Toronto?

Accepted Answer

Most GTA installs fall between 12,000 and 22,000 dollars for a ducted whole-home system and 5,000 to 8,000 dollars per zone for ductless, before rebates. Panel upgrades, ductwork changes and the number of indoor units move the price most.

Question 7

Do heat pumps work at −25°C?

Accepted Answer

Cold-climate models do. They're rated to keep producing heat at −25°C and often colder, below Toronto's −20°C design temperature. Output drops as it gets colder, which is why we size from a load calculation and state any backup heat in writing.

Question 8

Do I need an energy audit to get the Ontario rebate?

Accepted Answer

No, not for a heat-pump-only project. You do need pre-approval before installation and a participating contractor.

Question 9

What happens if my furnace breaks in January?

Accepted Answer

Send a quote request and mark it urgent. We restore safe heat first, then plan the heat pump with pre-approval so you don't lose the rebate by rushing.

Question 10

Will a heat pump lower my bills?

Accepted Answer

If you heat with electric baseboard, oil or propane, almost always, often by a large margin. On natural gas, savings depend on gas and electricity rates; a hybrid system often gives the lowest running cost. Your quote shows an estimate for your home.

Question 11

How loud is a heat pump?

Accepted Answer

Modern outdoor units run at roughly the volume of a quiet conversation. We place them away from bedroom windows and neighbours' living spaces where the lot allows.

Question 12

How long does installation take?

Accepted Answer

One to two days for most homes; up to three if a panel upgrade or duct changes are needed.
